Deworming Services for Pets

An important form of preventative care that keeps pets worm-free.

Worms can be contracted by your pet through various means such as contact with other animals, ingestion of animal feces, exposure to parasites, and transmission from their mother during the nursing period. The best protection for your pet, whether they are indoor or outdoor animals, is routine deworming.

When should my pet start deworming?

It is recommended to begin deworming during your pet's early stages of life, when they are still a puppy or a kitten. The process should begin when they are 4 to 6-weeks-old. They should be dewormed every 2 weeks until they are 3 months of age. After the puppy/kitten deworming, your pet should be dewormed regularly throughout their adult life.

How do worms affect my pet?

In many cases, worms can go undetected for a long time as your pet may not show any symptoms. With regular checkups, we can detect worms in the early stages and provide treatment. Here are some signs that your pet may have worms:

  1. Loss of appetite
  2. Rapid weight loss
  3. Fatigue
  4. Passing worms in their stool
  5. Stomach bloating
  6. Vomiting and diarrhea

If you notice these symptoms in your pet, please contact a veterinarian ASAP. To schedule an appointment, call us at 780-967-2967.

How does deworming work?

Deworming is an easy process. Based on your pet's diagnosis and age, the veterinarian will recommend a dewormer that will work best. The medication can be given via injection, tablet, liquids or in topical creams and it will flush out all the worms. Even before your pet is infected, they should take preventatives to protect them from infections. For preventatives to be effective, it must be administered at specific times without missing any doses. Be sure to ask our veterinarians about prevention medication.
