Vaccines for Puppies & Dogs

Protect your canine friend from life-threatening diseases with a vaccination plan.

At Onoway Veterinary Clinic, we are here to ensure your new pet gets started on the right path to a happy, healthy and long life. Vaccines are one of the best ways to protect your puppy or dog from diseases. With each dose of a vaccine, your pet's immune system learns how to fight off the disease/virus when they encounter it in the future. These diseases can be very harmful to your pet, other animals and sometimes even humans.

Why should I vaccinate my puppy/dog?

It is important to vaccinate your pet because it gives them protection from diseases, some of which are incurable. Your pet needs to be vaccinated early because, as puppies, they don't have much immunity, as maternal antibodies wear off in the first 6 weeks. Vaccinating your pet also gives protection to the rest of your family. If your pet becomes infected, there are some diseases that can be transmitted to humans they come in contact with. Furthermore, unvaccinated pets are prone to contracting diseases that are complex and expensive to treat. To book your pet's vaccination, call us at 780-967-2967.

What diseases do vaccines protect my pet from?

The vaccinations and boosters your puppy/dog receives will protect them from the following:

  1. Canine distemper virus: This disease is fatal and causes seizures, lung disease and fever.
  2. Rabies: A disease that affects the nervous system and progresses to death. It is a zoonotic disease which means humans can become infected when bitten by a rabid animal.
  3. Parvovirus: Another deadly disease which causes vomiting, bloody diarrhea and bone marrow suppression.
  4. Adenovirus/Parainfluenza: A respiratory disease causing lung infection, runny nose, pneumonia and coughing.
  5. Bordetella: Upper respiratory infection which causes breathing problems, cough, and a runny nose.

Your veterinarian may recommend other vaccines for your pet if they have a higher risk of developing other diseases.
